Personal Statement

Sometimes we hit a wall. Maybe we would usually describe our life as going pretty well, but lately we find it harder to find motivation, or we’re more irritable, anxious, or just plain sad. Sometimes we’ve struggled a long time (with nightmares, stress, bad memories, or feeling depressed) and it's beyond what a friend can help with. Whether your goals are to manage emotions, sleep better, think more clearly, feel better about yourself or key relationships, finally accept what can't be changed, better understand relationship patterns, or find a deeper sense of purpose and meaning in life, counseling / psychotherapy may be helpful.

My style and approach often seek to combine insight-oriented therapies (Gestalt, Psychodynamic), basic cognitive-behavioral concepts, and humor from a relaxed and strengths-based perspective while also taking into account the central role of spirituality for an integrated understanding of the individual to help each client address and find healing of their emotional and behavioral difficulties and strengthen their relationships.

I'm also trained and comfortable helping people explore spiritual & religious questions, as for many people these are core elements of how they see themselves and their world.

Although we cannot erase pain or suffering from our lives, we can seek to make adjustments so that we can come to carry it differently -- and as result, ultimately feel more content and live in peace. I believe the combination of a quality therapeutic relationship, effective counseling / psychotherapy, and (for those who so desire) staying involved in the Sacraments, can be powerful, effective part of the healing process.

While pain & suffering touch all of us at various points in our lives, we need not face difficult times alone. No struggle is too small or too large to bring to therapy. And it is definitely never too late to seek help. Please reach out. And please know that no suffering need be in vain. Hope is real.
